We are delighted to announce the winner in the Best Environmental Improvement category.

Salford Litter Heroes

Salford Litter HeroesSalford Litter Heroes are a group of committed volunteers who undertake frequent litter picks in the city, going out in all weather conditions to look after the environment, protect wildlife and make Salford a better place for everyone. The group engage with and set a fantastic example for young people and educate others on ways to reduce their waste and eliminate litter. They often make multiple trips to the same site to undertake picks and transform spaces.

Friends of Parr Fold Park

Friends of Parr Fold ParkFriends of Parr Fold Park have worked consistently for over five years to improve their community park. They have raised funds to invest in equipment and improvements; hold regular family events in the park; run weekly gardening sessions; and have worked to develop new planting schemes and improve the garden of remembrance in the park. The group have also improved the biodiversity in the green space and have developed a community orchard.

Project Shed

Project ShedThe Project Shed team, part of Lower Kersal Young People and Community Group, have worked tirelessly to improve greenspace in Lower Kersal. The volunteers have made significant improvements to their local community and their efforts mean that local people can enjoy the outdoor space and improve their wellbeing by making use of the greenspace maintained by the volunteers. Throughout the pandemic, with the group following government guidelines to operate in a COVID safe way they continued to transform local sites by converting a large shed into a community hub. The group have undertaken maintenance of the space; improved facilities on the site; and have made plans to expand their facilities and grow more fruit and vegetables on their site.

Salford Volunteer Rangers

Salford Volunteer RangersThe Salford Volunteer Rangers have worked hard to improve prominent greenspaces in the city, including Peel Park and the gardens at Salford Civic Centre. As part of this, the volunteers have designed impressive new planting schemes which have significantly improved both locations. The new schemes are bee friendly and improve biodiversity, as well as incorporating perennial plants to provide year round colour.

Wardley Gardeners

Wardley GardenersWardley Gardeners have worked tirelessly throughout the year to bring colour to Wardley Park. They have placed an array of plants in beds, in borders and in wooden planters; created a fantastic poppy display for Remembrance Sunday; and brought communities together to keep the park clean and tidy in all weathers. The group also arranges community events such as making bird boxes with the local children and holding the OVO dress your bike competition.
