Community Group of the Year

We are delighted to announce the winner in the Community Group of the Year category.

The other finalists were:

St Luke’s Arts and Drama Society

St Luke's has been going for 60 years and is a massive part of the local community in Weaste, Seedley and Langworthy. Putting on 2 shows a year, the society brings the theatre to families that might not otherwise get to see live performances. With members from 5 to 80 years old, it has been described as a great community group that’s inclusive to all.

Connect Youth and Community Centre

Connect Youth & Community Centre provides a space to socialise, try new activities in a safe environment, and make new friends. The centre offers a weekly lunch, as well as opportunities to learn new skills and try varied activities like singing and art. The group provides valuable support to the NHS by taking referrals from GPs and NHS Community Connectors.

Allotment for Veterans

The Allotment for Veterans was founded at Tindall Street Allotments by a local veteran who wanted to tackle loneliness and social isolation amongst people who had served in the military. In the last year the group has achieved amazing things, providing a space for veterans to meet and get involved in gardening and growing assorted fruit, vegetables, flowers, and herbs, whilst making new friends. The allotment has become a focal point for many veterans.

Visible Outcomes

Visible Outcomes was set up to empower, and to provide information, advice and guidance to people seeking asylum and refugees. The group does great work breaking down barriers and helping people to understand how to access housing services, set up a business or find a job, and develop digital skills and English language skills. The group also does valuable work to combat loneliness and social isolation, and fuel and food poverty.
