Young Person of the Year 2021

We are delighted to announce the winners in the Young Person of the Year category.

Westley Myerscough

Westley MyerscoughWestley has shown grit and resilience to overcome significant challenges. He has been working consistently with the council’s youth service since 2018 to improve himself and develop a positive approach to life. Westley has overcome a period when he was not in education, employment or training after he left school and – having excelled in a virtual course – has recently been successful in applying for a job with the Crown Prosecution Service. Westley is very committed to his family and has developed into a great role model for his siblings.

Beth Pilling

Beth PillingBeth is an inspirational young person, who has overcome challenges and is balancing the final year of her adult nursing degree with being a mum to her young daughter. Throughout the pandemic, Beth has worked on the Respiratory wards at Bolton General Hospital, looking after very poorly COVID patients. Beth has worked tirelessly throughout giving comfort and care to very ill people in extremely difficult circumstances.

Beck Vinton

Beth VintonBeck is ten years old and, throughout the pandemic, has worked with his family to fundraise, pick, pack and deliver food parcels locally. Beck has worked extremely hard to help support older, vulnerable and isolated people by providing food parcels to more than 1000 families. During the October half term and Christmas holiday Beck has also worked to tackle holiday hunger in Salford, providing 100s of food parcels for children in the city.

Members of the Fight for Change Council

Fight for Change CouncilThe Fight for Change Council are a group of inspirational young people who work in partnership with health, education and social care services to develop better outcomes for looked after children. They have been part of projects that have helped services better understand the challenges looked after children face. Throughout the pandemic they have continued to meet virtually to support each other and develop projects on anti-racism, social media safety, and mental health.
